Michael Soukup
In January 2020, Michael assumed an of-counsel role with the firm, having taken another position outside the firm. He will remain of-counsel while finishing out his representation in the firm's cases begun before 2020.
Starting as an Assistant Appellate Defender with the State Appellate Defender in Chicago, he worked exclusively in criminal appeals. He represented clients seeking to appeal their convictions in a wide range of offenses, including misdemeanors, driving under the influence, and violent felonies. He also represented children in appeals from both juvenile court and the adult criminal justice system. Since moving to Wisconsin, Michael has continued his commitment to advocating for the rights of the accused. He has successfully applied his knowledge and advocacy skills to the rules and procedures of Wisconsin, representing people in the postconviction hearing process and in the Appellate Court. Michael graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2007, where he participated in the Childlaw Program and served as Senior Editor for the Children's Legal Rights Journal. He also gained experience working on cases related to the protection of civil rights, the rights of consumers, and the rights of person with disabilities. |
